Cold air intake and up pipe

Postby VanillaIce220 » Thu Oct 09, 2014 12:49 pm

Helloooo. I am looking at getting some things done to my car and I am curious if i should get a proper good cold air intake and if i should get a catless up pipe, (car will be tuned the day everything is fitter)
Can anyone suggest a really good Cold Air Intake and catless up pipe that will fit my 2004 bl GT.
or explain to me why these items will be a bad idea.
Meme god.

Post up a list of your current mods

Depends on your goals for the cai/car. It won't help performance under 230kwatw, in other words until you have a bigger turbo and the fuel system upgraded - all you're getting is more noise.

Cut the bottom of your airbox out to get a similar effect, stick a higher flowing panel filter in and you've got noise and enough flow for 280atw. That's way past stock engine safe capabilities. A cai can also cause more difficulties during tuning than it's worth.

As for uppipe, could be beneficial, something like the Kobe motosport/grimmspeed? If I'm not wrong, you already have a catless pipe as stock, so not a major gain... just do it when and if you upgrade the turbo.

100% right alexei...no cat in the up-pipe in the 2.0L...also your model is the twin scroll turbo...

keep your stock headers, they're fine...

so to crack over 200kw on 98

upgrade the twinscroll - http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Kinugawa-Bil ... 43d040a19c

and also try find good a twin scroll dump pipe...that's hard to find...

or

Convert to single scroll...which involves getting a VF52...

new single scroll dump - x-force with hi-flow cat...lots of them around..

stock single scroll headers & stock TMIC from 2.5L Liberty GT or Forester XT 09-13, WRX 08-13 - both of them will be fairly cheap

both of these setups will need a re-tune...

CAI not needed, for this setup..

okay so far, I have an ARC top Mount, full exhaust; custom dump and high flow cat with fugitsubo from cat back, ummmmm...... I already have that turbo with a different wastegate spring installed the 1.5bar or something, just waiting on installation and retune. You said that the Up pipe is catless already? that would be good if it is. and no need for a CAI?
Would you be able to supply me with a link for an up pipe, once i get this turbo on I will get a better up pipe yeah :D

Sweet :)

Then your all good to go...no cat up-pipe on yours so I wouldn't worry about changing the up-pipe...because I don't know if there is an aftermarket twin scroll up-pipe...I know that the tubing on the twin scroll liberty is smaller than, the twin scroll JDM STI ones..but they won't fit your model..

Your standard airbox is good for 250awkw...so unless you want it for noise, than I would money on it...

Yeah I have been looking around for a different up pipe and its not working so I will just leave it same with the CAI, I do not need my car making over 250awkw any time soon.

Thanks for your input fella's. At least I know a little more about my car. :)

Are you sure it's a twinscroll downpipe? The listing is for an impreza.

Going by this thread and a thread I read on the LegacyUK forums it is a direct bolt on to the TD04HLA but requires modifications at the bottom section.

Kewl! Yeah it looks like it's not quite a 'bolt-on'. But it's a start :)
