Hey guys,
Was recently pulling up a hill and heard a loud knock followed by oil and coolant all over the road. Had it towed to the local Subaru specialist here in Hobart and they barely had a look before telling me the whole motor would need to be almost completely rebuilt and for them to do it would be around the $15k mark . A quick search on here pointed me in the direction of Rising Sun to enquire about an EJ207 long block. I'm yet to hear back so I'm chasing the opinions of those with more experience in the mean time.
I haven't got a full report from the mechanic but from what they said over the phone the short block, heads, gasket kit and turbo were all needing to be replaced at a minimum and that was without having a proper look for anything beyond that.
So, what are my options? Is a long block EJ207 the best way to go?
*Edit - More info*
It's manual.
Budget is pretty tight, would prefer to do it for under 8k.
In terms of power goals I'd be more than happy with 200 atw, not after huge amounts of power.
Car was purchased second hand and to my knowledge has never been tuned or modified.
The mechanic gave very little information, basically said they had a brief look and it was still spewing coolant and oil everywhere and they would need to rebuild the whole lot, sounds like they're either trying to rip me off or just aren't interested in the job. Still waiting to get a report from them with the specifics.
