Erratic idle issues

Postby RaS11M » Tue Jun 10, 2014 9:46 am

Hi guys,

I have been having some intermittent issues with idle on my car over the past 6 months. It normally feels like slight shudder on idle , its like the car vibrates slightly when on idle at very low rpm. I have taken it to 3 different mechanics so far and got the following checked:

1. Vacuum Leaks checked
2. Banjo Filters checked
3. Injectors checked and cleaned
4. Tune checked
5. Front O2 sensor replaced
6. MAF sensor replaced
7. Coil packs checked

The issue comes and goes.

I serviced the car on the weekend with new oil , oil filter, upper cylinder cleaner, fuel additive and replaced spark plugs. The car was running fine up until this morning. Now its hunting for revs. Can anyone tell me what might be causing this behaviour ? Attached is the video to show you how the car is behaving.

Cheers

Have the AVCS solenoids been removed and checked? If it is AVCS related it can easily be checked with a scan tool or RomRaider and will show one of the solenoids getting stuck.

I had exactly the same issue your having now and was also only intermittent. Due to my car being under warranty I took it back to the dealer, they cleaned the injectors, AVCS solenoids and found a vacuum hose disconnected. Issue has not occurred since ;)

I have taken the car to Subaru Mgrath, They kept the car for 3 days ran series of tests, they checked everything on the car from AVCS to injectors to timing , compression test etc. I already replaced maf, replaced front and rear 02 sensors etc. I still have a rough idle issue... Revs now stay still but the car shakes on idle and when you keep the revs at around 1500rpm you can feel the shudder.

What else can be causing this issue?

Subaru confirmed the car is doing everything it's supposed to but the idle issue is still there!

Please help me !

Is the shutter there as you are driving at 1500rpm, or just stationary revving to 1500rpm?

Do you know what sort of flywheel your car has? As in singe or dual mass? Is it the orginal one and has it ever been removed or replaced?

The banjo filters checked? Which ones, exactly?
You really need to log all 4 vvt's to exclude avcs :)

Subaru do not have a clue when it comes to this issue so get hold of a tactrix and DIY log it yourself.
If it's ok, great move onto diagnosing all the other things it could be.
