Gearbox replacement

Postby PaulDN » Fri Jun 06, 2014 2:44 pm

Hi guys,

I need help with some information on replacing a geabox. I have a Gen4 Lib GT manual and when the flywheel/clutch failed the thrust bearing exploded and caused this....

Now i have searched high and low for a direct replacement gearbox (TY757VBBAB) with no luck. Does anyone out there know if I can change to another box as long as it suits the current 4.1 diff ratio or can I switch to another gearbox with 4.4 as long as I change the rear diff to suit?
If so, what should I be looking at in regards to models?
Do WRX/forester gearbox's fit or is there a size differnce?

Hold fast, assuming your gear box itself is ok, I'd look into this: http://pdmusa1.com/

Failing that go all out with a complete 6mt dccd conversion ;)

Thanks for the reply! Thats really helpful and yes, my gearbox itself is fine. What i'll have to find out now is if it will fit. The American Legacys were all 2.5L and I have the 2.0L so that may have an impact on the size of the sleeve...

Fibble on here bought the same kit (confirm with him exactly which one) as a preventative measure. Purchased from US and he has an '05 GT 5MT. Fitted no probs.

Yeah that speedysleeve would be ideal. Rebuilt my gearbox with same thing about 8 years ago. Box is still going strong

The part I bought was from ebay :
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Subaru-Turbo ... 1c3f518ae6
I couldnt figure out the international shipping part on the american website. As you can see it was about $200 AUS posted.
The labour was done by my brother-in-law so its not an accurate costing but $1500 including a service, clutch, flywheel and new CV boots all round
