Have been wondering whether there is another cost effective option for people in my position (dump pipe already done) and who dont want to change headers and up pipe to single scroll in order to upgrade turbo.
I believe the kinu td04hla-20t is the largest aftermarket bolt on turbo but where to when you have reached its limit and dont want to make too many changes in order to upgrade the turbo?
What if I already have a spare standard td04hla ts turbine housing laying around (well got the whole turbo actually)....would it be possible to get a turbo specialist to adapt a slightly larger chra and corresponding comp cover to this and for it to be cost effective?
For eg could the below be adapted to the standard turbine housing ie remove current turbine housing and adapt to standard ts turbine housing?
http://shop.mambatek.com/Ball-Bearing-G ... 2-0272.htmThis turbine wheel is 53.8mm and kinu turbine wheels are 54.0mm on the 19t i believe and 58mm on the 20t (not sure if thats a typo on their web site) but basically the turbine wheel will fit in the standard ts td04hla turbine housing and may not even require machining if it is 54.0mm factory.
IF this is possible and the machining and matching up costs say $500 by the turbo specialist then this whole exercise of upgrading turbo might end up around circa $1400 and you end up with a turbo capable of 400hp on 98 potentially?
Has anyone looked into this sort of approach and keen to share their findings?
Ps i understand dr20t just modified the ts up pipe to a single scroll in order to bolt on a 2871r so thats another option I guess but then I would also need to change dump pipe too.
