To top feed or stay on the side?

Postby Sean82 » Mon Mar 03, 2014 2:55 pm

Please know, I understand the benefits of top vs side feed injectors and vice-versa.

I'm about to get myself a pre-facelift GT to replace my Forester and have a few parts lying around, including some top-feed ID1000s (that saw only 3 months use in my Forester) and a pair of EJ25 top feed TGVs that I've partly made into TGV-deletes.

I would like to know from people who have made the conversion from side feed injectors to top feed, do you think it was worth the effort?
This isn't a cost comparison (I can get DW1100s for about $650, which is about the cost of aftermarket top feed rails and conversion kit like the ID one and I figure I'll get a new FPR irrespective of the choice I do end up making), but more a question of, was it worth the hassle do you think? Was it even really a hassle? (It looks like it might be...)

I understand much of this question comes down to how much power, what turbo, what boost, what colour car, whether I wear Calvin Klein or Bonds underwear, etc., so please just assume I'm going to need at least the 1000cc top feeds or the 1100cc side feeds sooner or later 8)

Thanks for any input

Sean..

If you can get big side feeds stay with them. I had no problems with the PE850s on e85. Made decent power with them. The biggest thing is side feeds seem to be rare and expensive. I think I paid 800-900 bucks for a set of 4 850s.
Kinda flush. Fitment is something. ADM as F*ck.

Thanks Ian

You ended up making ~300 on eFlex at PiTS with those injectors, didn't you? 20G-XTR or was it the BNR job?

290kw at wheels on e85 with the 20g xtr yeah. It was running out of waste gate control at that point. Still some fuel left in it.
