MY05 Liberty GT Cam gear solenoid locations

Postby RaS11M » Thu Jan 02, 2014 10:21 am

Hi there guys,

Happy new year to all !

Can anyone point me in the right direction, preferably some pics on where all 4 cam gear solenoids are located? I am having issues with drivers side Exhaust AVCS being out of sync of target value and Left gets to over 15 but right is under 15. This would make it run lean on one bank and teach the ECU to add fuel which explains why my car is having erratic idle issues.

I have attached the readings from ecu where you can clearly see the problem.

I would like to to pull the solenoids out and clean them throughly to see if it fixes the problem? Is it easy to do ? Any information is appreciated.

The inlet ones are as per the phots in one the top posts, visible, but a little fiddly .
The exhaust ones are accessed from underneath.
Pulling the y-pipe off makes them easier to access.
Be careful with the plus though as they get brittle.
I broke an exhaust one pulling motor out and at $300+ (ouch) expensive lesson.
The inlet ones fit other model engines so they are easy to find second hand . The exhaust ones seem only to fit the EJ20X and Y.
Pretty much new from subaru (and ex japan) . Wreckers wanted almost new preice for them.
Good luck.
Worth cleaning.
