I need some outside opinions,
What single scroll turbo should I upgrade my existing VF38 with?
I'm leaning towards Blouch RBK TD05-18G XTR now, but I'd like recommendations too

are you aware that your current setup is twin scroll?

If youre dead sey on single scroll - Kinugawa td05 16g single scroll ball bearing

Need a facelift TMIC with the above to make it bolt on.

Why single scroll? For the money you're going to pay for a new turbo and second hand single scroll headers, you could buy a set of second hand jdm wrx Sti twin scroll headers and twin scroll turbo with Sti TMIC which will make up to 250atw with the right tune and fueling.

That's the path I would go down

Yes I've upgraded to the process west TMIC already, upsized with a Cobb & PSR intake, fitted a Tru-boost and put money aside for new single scroll headers too for the swap. I've also bought and fitted an Invidia Q300 turbo back system but except for the new aus spec dump pipe because of the existing turbo flange, I only use 98 octane and I'm going to get Coyote to do the tune when I'm done. So I'm sort of at the point of no return and need further advice off others like yourself with the finishing touches on selecting the turbo.

Is the pw TMIC to suit your current vf38?

If so, it won't work with the single scroll setup.

No it's just to suit the BP5... I think? MRT and I didn't really talk too much about the existing turbo. I didn't think it would make much difference, would it?
Wouldn't I just have to change the inlet pipe from the compressor and be done with it?

Yes this is right - assuming your pw is normal BL/BP and has inlet on the left.

Hose will also depend on which turbo and how you mount - i.e. horizontal / vertical.

Okay well that makes sense. Yeah I dont want to go too large as it's not a track car. That's why I was looking at the blouch 18g opposed to the 440xt.

Excuse my ignorance, what do you mean pre and post will be different?

He means the compressor outlet on the turbo, and the corresponding inlet on the intercooler.

Oh okay. Well currently my vf38 is significantly smaller than the pw tmic inlet. Cooler is about 3" and vf38 is roughly 2".
Is that good or bad?
P.s. Expect what seem like stupid questions from me, I am here to learn as well

Let me give example.......

We currently have a pw intercooler connected to a Blouch Dom 1.5 on 05 GT.
Turbo is horizontal with S shaped hose connected to pw from left
Same pw connects to TD04HLA (turbo on manual 05-06 GT - similar to VF38 on auto) which is flanged and vertical with different hose

Cody - to be absolutely sure everything works you will need to decide on the turbo and then evaluate against the pw you have and current hose arrangement.
To fully understand what Mick is referring to, you could search google images and look closely at the VF38 and compare to the Blouch - even rotated vertical, you will note the Blouch compressor outlet will be in a different position
Does your pw feed in from the left?

Yeah well the PW inlet is on the left and the current vf38 flange is on the vertical which i have like a U shaped pipe connecting the two with an additional elbow shooting down to the compressor flange. The 18G is on the horizontal, which i was planning on re-clocking. I dont know how easy that will be though. the other option is to use the 380xt, which is basically the same turbo as the 18G except it has a flange on the vertical just like the vf38. This seems like more of a bolt on option if the 18G is too difficult to re-clock. either that or it's a better option altogether?
I've been told they're performance is identical, just the flange and orientation is different. By the way, there is a reasonable amount of room around, above the vf38 at the moment with the PW already installed if that means anything. I'll post a photo...dont laugh at the hose though its only temporary...you'll know what i mean when you see it
