Hello all,
I'm new here, to Subarus and Oz and was wondering what the Liberty 2.0 GT 2005 engines were like. The one I'm looking at is at 150,000 kms . How long do these engines typically go for before they need a rebuild.
Also, what is the transmission like? Any help is greatly appreciated!
Thank you!

Sorry...it's an Auto, and also how long does the turbo lasts? It's a 2004 4 Gen MY05.

My 04 has done 167,000kms, original motor and turbo. Look after it and it'll look after you

My 05 has done 190k. 3 turbo and about to be second motor (and 4th turbo). Heh
These things are reliable if you look after them. The fact mine stood up to 18 months of abuse, and I mean abuse, a pretty serious tune and some very spirited driving, makes them a very impressive thing. Keep good oil up to them and it will look after your wallet.
The main faults are well document on this forum.
02 sensor
AVCS filters
Lower control arm bushes
the odd air leak
Timing belts are important too, make sure the person who does it knows what is what.
Ian.

Thanks guys for your replies. This is a one owner vehicle with no major repairs as far as I know, just minor things. The seller thinks the timing belt has been replaced, but unsure as couldn't find the receipts. Most of the servicing has been recorded on the log book by Subaru, but missed a couple and caught up later. There is an oil leak at the top/front of the engine and when I looked and also checked the dipstick, the engine oil was rather low. It's definitely leaking oil somewhere, no unusual sounds or smoke when I took it for a text drive. Getting it checked out my a mechanic soon. Are parts expensive in Oz? The usual ones, oil filter, fuel filter, oil, spark plus etc. for turbo engines.
Thanks again!

Consumables are cheap. I would be thinking about walking away from that one mate. If they have skipped the 100 000km service....ferk that.

Just had my 275,000km service on my MY05 GT manual. Never misses a beat. I have looked after it mechanically though.
If you call up the Subaru dealership who did the logbook servicing, they should be able to tell you everything that was done, so you can find out if the timing belt was done or not etc.
Skipped services do not bode well though. You should be looking for cars that have had the oil changed every 6 months despite not travelling enough kms between service intervals.

Yeah man you can do better than that. I've seen my04's at dealers with full service histories and under 150,000k's advertised for under 14,000
