Would they go onto the 06 TBSTI without any changes to uppipe/dump pipe etc ?

Nope

As i said before - the preface liberty GT setup is unique to the 04-06 adm and jdm liberty (legacy)

To use a vf56 you need the headers and up pipe off a jdm Sti

Hit up Kip at ATP turbo in Murrumbeena, he can machine your vf38 to suit new vf34 CHRA.

Howdy,

I have just gone down the path of doing the VF34 internal swap on my 04 GT auto a few weeks ago and it certainly has transformed the car. Very responsive and pulls hard through to redline compared to the original set up. Essentially, a completely different car to drive. :D

Likewise, it was in part the convenience of dropping it off and getting it done without having to source headers etc that helped sell this path to me. Not sure if it is a reflection of a tested path &/or a lack of movement with the times, but all the performance shops in Adelaide that worked with Libs recommended the vf34 internal conversion, so there were many options to chose from as long as it was the vf34!

I am happy with it, just waiting for a re-tune next week as I just put a FMIC on it and a few issues need to be ironed out.

happy choosing and researching!

I'm flagging the vf38 as well and planning on installing a blouch 380xt from psr.
Anyone had a blouch before?
If so, what are they like?

Yes
Good.
380xt won't fit properly. Designed to work on post fact lift. Has a different compressor outlet.

18g xtr would be a good thing. I ran a 20gxtr with some success, it was tuned by Coyote. Some would say great success. The 18g would be a bit more responsive. What injectors are you running?

Just original injectors at the moment.
Was actually thinking about upgrading them and the fuel pump too. I'm not sure though on what I'll need though

Big side feeds. Hard to find, and expensive. I will be selling some PE850s soon, second hand, but they wont be cheap.
Fuel pump. Plenty of drop ins out there. I must steer you away from DW though. In my experience I have seen 3 fail recently on local cars. Otherwise they were good things.

Just to add, what you are doing, I have done. Dr20t has don

Tapatalk can seriously get sodomized. I mean that from the ventricles of my beating heart.

So I typed something like this before, Tapatalk ate it.

Both dr20t and myself have been down this road. Dr20t went with a twist mounted 2871. I personally see this as worth the effort. Real Garretts/twist mounts are great things. Much more response than their bolt on cousins. He also did a top feed conversion, I am going to assume because side feeds are more expensive and harder to find. We achieved similar results. We will assume mine was faster because, you know, I am the one typing this. I ran a 20gxtr, the cbrd bbk-l roller bearing branded unit. Thankfully, they simplified the name. My turbo seemed quite laggy, not really waking up until 4500 rpm, at which point it was astounding. There is a high probability that this was due to my china spec HDI FMIC kit, which, for all intents and purposes, seemed like a heap of shit. It rubbed through in a few spots, so I was forever chasing boost leaks. I never really looked at the core itself, though people seem to think they flow okay. That said, the same people most likely never used an ARE, PWR, or any other locally made core. My PE850 injector worked really well, and were easy to fit. I ran an AVO drop in pump, quite expensive, but it was the only drop in available at the time. Flowed 265lph, worked well on 98 and up to 260@wheels on e85. Ended up running a walberg 400lph e85 specific thing. Worked a treat. A lot of work though.

So, you will need a set of headers. I first ran a set of subaru ones, I cannot remember what they are off, I assume a post facelift genIV. I ran these with a vf34 and the 20gxtr. The spool was a lot better with these due to the smaller pipe diameter. No doubt it would have hurt top end. It also had that horrible subaru drone. Made worse by the wagon. I ended up running set of aftermarket equal length headers, hurt spool, but helped power alot. Made the car a million times better to drive because it made it so quite.

in short
Budget on
-turbo 2000 for a blouch, unless you find a good 2nd handy
-injectors 850-1000, depending if you go sidefeed or top feed with new rails, it will work out about the same
-headers 850 for kando ones of ebay, or just take the ones out of my garage.
-some form of ditching the airbox and running a pod, the sky is the limit here, but if you are patient I might have something to help you
-fuel pump. use a DW650 at you peril, as I have said else where, usually a good thing, but I have seen a few shit themselves of late. There are other drop in options around the 300 mark

It all adds up. this will get you up towards the auto's limit and will be a great drive.
