05 GT Noise

Hi Guys,

I have an 05 GT Sedan and I am having a problem with a noise in the frontend.

Basically there seems to be a "rubbing" noise which is only apparent at approx 3000rpm and only when the vehicle is under load i.e going up a hill or even a slight gradient. It seems as though it could be related to steering as when the wheel is turned sharply left or right the noise disappears.

I have posted a video to YouTube to demonstrate:

http://youtu.be/z2RaL8XswCs

Any one have any ideas on what it may be??

Thanks in advance.
Aaron

When was the last time you checked your power steering fluid?

Yup - I'd start by checking power steering fluid as well.

How many ks?

OK - so next - could it be a wheel bearing?

Normally a wheel bearing failure would create a whining or maybe "rubbing" noise as the road speed increases.

The wheel bearing noise will disappear as you load the opposite side of the car - i.e. noisy left wheel bearing noise will disappear when you turn left.....

Can you give this a test - wheel bearings on our cars were made of cheese.......

No whining noise and the noise is only apparent from approx 2500-3000 no matter what speed you are doing, e.g. I have heard it driving out of my driveway at very low speeds.

I have a mechanic looking at it as we speak as I had some other stuff done and he has discovered a cracked intake where it attaches to the turbo. Does anyone have any suggestions on a good aftermarket replacement?? Hope fully this may resolve the issue.

Cheers

Did you find your problem?

Not as yet, have a pro street racing intake coming as the stock one has cracked near where it connects to the turbo.

Sounds like a massive split in the intake.

how big is the crack/split your mechanic found?

Yep you got it! Put a new intake on last night (what a fun job... Not!) and the noise has gone! The intake was completely screwed where it bolts on the turbo!
