The story so far........
Suby went for a service Saturday - Also did upper engine clean as part of service.
During service mechanic noticed oil around the front of the engine - couldnt locate exact cause.
He degreased the engine as it was a bit dirty (i know) and said come back in a week and he should be able to pin point the leak.
Told me to take the car for a spirited drive to ensure upper engine cleaner / degreaser water combo dispersed.
All was well until about 5 hours later when I get engine light / cruise light flash on dash. Limp mode 20 kph home.
Left car over night started fine drove on Sun / Mon / Tues / Wed - no issue.
Car died today same error - 20 kph limp mode. Left it half a day / strated ok drove to mechanic.
Diagnostic showed MAF error / Throttle sensor error. Mechanic said MAF error was probably from after the engine clean.
Checked air intake / I cleaned MAF connector earlier / cleared codes and went for a drive.
Car died after 2 mins - we had the diagnostic running and the throttle sensor codes came back. MAF error gone.
So now I have a P0122 / P2135 pending. (TPS).
Now I'm wondering could the degrease / water have caused this issue and apart from buying a new sensor is there anything else to try apart from maybe cleaning electrical contacts?
My mechanic is trying to source a second hand one (he can try b4 buying) so he can test it before doing anything else.
Any help appreciated..
by the way the "oil" was actually from the power steering pump so thats not too bad..!!

ended up being o2 sensor...car runs like its got a rocket underneath it!!

Ended up with a BOSCH replacement sensor - $276.
As my mechanic spent half a day + on it all up was $550.
He had actually removed the throttle body assembly dismantled it - it was dry inside as he thought the degrease may have stuff things up.
He is now thinking it was the upper engine cleaner that pushed the o2 sensor over the egde - it was black when it was removed.
I have service papers from the last owner that show this was replaced 50k ago.
Strange that diagnostic only showed TPS error - and not 02 - would have saved me half a days labour!!
Car runs really well now - its almost like a mini tune!!

Should have bought the revised version of the O2, as early the old version is prone to failure!

Could have replaced yourself too in a matter of minutes (did mine a few weeks ago took less then 5 mins)

Your mechanic is game pulling apart the throttle body. O2 sensors are supposed to be black lol

Did see the new o2 sensor thread after it was diagnosed - If I had the OBD2 gear / scanner / software / cables I suppose I could have had a go. But as mentioned was not actually showing o2 problem - so had to rely on him really. He knows what he's doing - / builds engines and drags his own vehicles - been into cars for a long time and I've been using him for years.

Hopefully thats it for now as there's other "things" I wanna do to this car..

Came up with a P0171 "left bank lean". Been told its the O2 sensor, replaced that... Still happening.

I'm a 2.5 turbo tho which makes a difference as Subaru supposedly fixed the faulty O2 sensors.!! Mmmhhh

exhaust leak can give a "lean" fault too

Maybe you actually have a lean tune which is triggering the CEL.

Perhaps chuck it on a dyno and check the AFR's on WOT.

Is the car completely stock with the factory tune?

Edit: Reading some of your earlier posts I see you've just bought the car. I'd get someone who knows how to use a Tactrix cable to download your tune and compare it to the stock tune. I've seen this error previously when the tune is amended to compensate for faulty O2 sensors and exhaust leaks where the throttle position at idle as been changed. The same may also apply to Boostaddict's situation.

Just a thought.

BTW the Subaru expected life of an O2 sensor is 160,000kms so something doesn't sound quite right.

Ive been assured by the tuner that the actual tune is spot on!!

I have been having this issue sporadically , so im pretty sure its not the tune!!

Was the car tuned with the faulty O2 sensor installed at the time?
