Liberty GT 04 - Bottom End Bearing! TWICE

Postby gtsubi » Tue Apr 23, 2013 3:29 pm

You guys are probably not going to beleive this but i spun my bottom end bearing 6 months ago and last week I did it again after getting it fixed by doing and engine rebuild for $5,000. I dont want to do another engine rebuild!!!

I bought the car for $16,000 8 months back and blew it at 130,000 kms. After doing the rebuild I did 10,000 kms on the new engine then blew it again.

Ideas? Options? ?!?!?!?!?!

Who's the builder

lol, it was a job done in Fawkner/Broadmedows in Melbourne. Dodgy suburbs

Cash job, no receipt, no warrenty, was a better option than Subaru charging me $9k for a build

No Receipt does not man sh!t.
you paid $5k for an engine that should under reasonable circumstances last much more than 10,000km

If it's faulty workmanship on their part you are entitled to receive replacement/ repairs/ refund of the goods.

Have you had the failure diagnosed as to what caused it.
If not, that is the first thing to do.

OK, so what else was wrong with it?
what happened at the time of it dying?
what fuel do you use?
what caused the first failure?

last time, when it first happened, the engine just ceased, but now its still going coz its still new noise.

There in lies your problem. Stock tune on MY04 is prone to detonation even with 98 RON fuel, which the user manual states is the minimum RON fuel. By running 95 octane your engine is constantly detonating... sounds like you've done the damage through use of incorrect fuel.

New short motor from Rising Sun Subaru - $2200
Competent mechanic to install - $2000

Think you got done over at 5K

I'd be going back and causing them a great deal of trouble by exercising every right & complaint process available.

CURRENT - ATP GTX 3576 - 22psi - 283.7awkw
OLD - Dom 1.5Xtr - Last dyno 254ahkw, previous 238ahkw, first 224awkw.
