What oil are you using?

Postby NRV155 » Mon Apr 08, 2013 4:50 pm

Im going to be servicing my car shortly but im unsure on what oil to use. Can these engines take any sort of turbo oils or is there a specific oil that should be used? Do the later models use different oil strengths than earlier models?

I used to run Royal Purple 10w40 in my old girl & was very happy with it. Still know a heap of people who use it in HSV's, MPS3's, etc & are all very happy.

Another good option is Mobil1 which is what Porsche run as standard & I also used in my EVO X... Again, very happy with it & you can buy it direct from the wholesaler which saves a bit of coin.

You dont have to read or post in this thread so whats the problem? Took you more effort to post that than just answering the question. Thanks for the input though.

sorry, but why ask the same question that's been answered a million times.

I like Peanut Oil personally.

So its pretty much safe to use any off the shelf oils around 10w40 then. Thanks.

I did use search but it ignores the word oil as its too common and it drags up useless posts if i type in a phrase like "best oil to use" or something. But thanks for everyones help.
Whats the point of a forum if everything has already been covered? No one should ask any questions anymore, just use the search function, its all there apparently.

Mate, a lot of stuff really IS all there, this particular topic has been covered way to many times to count.

Just so you know, the search function doesn't recognise words that are less than 4 characters.

The best way to get around it is googling the following

site:forum.liberty.asn.au search terms here

Lol, i just did and the first link on google is chaotic2050 saying he couldnt find a thread using the trusty search function back in 2010
But he didnt get flamed for asking what has already been covered. Maybe its pick on the noob day or something?
Anyway the guys on the legacy forum seem to agree on using Mobil1 so ill give that a go i guess.

No one has anything against you mate.. It just gets annoying when these threads pop up regularly when it's all been answered before.

You have an ej20y which has alot tighter tolerances than the US legacy guys running 2.5's. remember they never received the 2.0 Litre

Do not use what they recommend

I strongly advise you to keep the following away from your motor:

- Mobil 1 full synthetic
- royal purple

Depending on kms I would run with a penrite / hitec / motul 10w40 and change it every 5000kms

If over 150,000kms on the engine, then I'd recommend a slightly heavier oil

With the motul, whats the difference between powerlight 2100, turbolight 4100 and synergie+? All are 10w40, would i be getting turbolight? That would be the obvious choice to me.
