Engine wont start

Postby eslampar » Mon Feb 18, 2013 6:23 pm

New owner of second hand 05 gt wagon. Went to start her up after work today and had no love. Engine was turning over with plenty of battery juice. Outside temp was 41*C. Common problem? Any ideas anyone? Cheers.

Did you have the AC on? Radio?

AC on full blast etc could've been sapping your battery. Best bet would be to confirm with a multimeter (should be reading 14V). If it wasn't that then I'd be thinking dirty injectors or dying fuel pump. Next time try priming a few times as she may not be getting enough fuel to turn over.

Yea tried turning all accessories off. Pumped the throttle a fair bit, didnt want to pump too much in. Hoping its just a faulty sensor or another simple fault. Getting sussed out tomorrow, fingers crossed its not compression related. Thanks mate

Sounds like fuel problem. You can't flood a car that's DBW

Do you hear the fuel pump prime when you put the key into ON ?

Jake.. That won't help. Although shouting the name of the product may make you feel a bit better

Does it sound healthy while cranking?

I.e is it turning over normally?

You may have blown a fuel pump fuse or failsafe main

RAA man and myself have narrowed it down to a faulty fuel pump. Any experiences with this? Costs involved in replacement? Cheers.

Shouldn't set you back much. A good aftermarket pump is going to set you back approx $300.00... Couldn't tell you how much it will cost to install, but shouldn't be a great deal :)

Heaps of people replace the fuel pump as part of a performance upgrade (Or maybe for going E85 ;) ) so hopefully someone that has done it recently will be able to provide more up to date costings.
