G'day mate, on my 2.0N/A, I was told that we should not remove the engine cover as it may be dangerous....this was the advice from the mechanic at Bill Buckle Subaru in Brookvale!

From what I hear, the engine cover for a GT specially for TMIC is that it directs the air from the scoop onto the intercooler.

Without the engine cover the air from the scoop would just be dispersed all over the engine and not where it is needed the most.

I'd leave it on unless you are running a FMIC.

from my understanding ... you shouldn't remove the cover .. bcoz it help directing the air from the bonnet scoop to the top mount !!

k then i won't remove it, it just looks so chunky and looks like it keeps hot air but you's have own liberties longer than i have so i'll follow the advice

If the cover would be causing issues, removal of same would only mean that the bonnet would be doing the same job so I think if you are unwilling to drive sans bonnet(this is how i drive around on hot days) then just leave the cover on.

Hey all, sorry to burst your bubble on your theories but it makes absolutely no difference if the cover is left off.

A couple of months ago whilst I was servicing the car, I left the cover on the ground on the other side of the garage and when my wife came home she accidentally ran over it (then reversed back over it for good measure!). So since this point we have been running without one for no other reason than i haven't been bothered going to get one. It makes no difference at all to the running of the car, none. It's there for show and serves to hide all the untidiness beneath it.

A new one is $232 retail, there are 4 in stock in Sydney and the part no is 14025AA210.

Theoretically, it does help to channel the air to the intercooler by sealing off gaps; whether it makes a NOTICEABLE difference is the question
