Engine model

Hi guys
A simple question but what is the engine model for 2003 genIV gt
looked over the net seems to be alot of information but a little bit confusing.
Is it EJ20T?

Any other information about engine,turbo greatly appreciated
Links, specs, etc
thanks from a bloke who loves libs but has realised (once i joined the forum) I know very little when it comes to specs, numbers and what can and cannot fit

Hey mate.

EJ20, dual AVCS, twinscroll VF38 turbo, stock power is 180kw according to redbook, probs more like 110-120atw.

Engine code is ej20y

They share the same blocks as the twin turbo gen 2 gtbs but have different heads (quad avcs small port) with smaller combustion chambers (46cc compared to 48-50cc in other ej heads), and raised piston crowns for a high compression ratio of 9.5:1 from factory

This helps in off boost throttle response and also spool up, as well as resulting in greater volumetric efficiency.

Good motors - only downside is they're still open deck (semi open) but that does the job for 98% of people

Another upside is they don't suffer as much from the same problems as the 2.5 gt's did such as headgasket problems, bearings, piston failure etc. Not saying these won't or don't happen, but not as chronic as the ej255 motors.

Basically - ej20y' 2.0l was designed for high revving / performance based jdm market

Ej255 was made for "bigger / more cubes are better" usdm market, where they were also more of a mass produced family cruiser than performance car.

The jdm facelift legacy still used the ej20y and made more power in oem form than the ej255 of any market anywhere in the world.

WTF....

Gen2 GTB Auto had an EJ20H
Gen2 GTB Manual was an EJ20R
both open deck like nearly every other non-STi EJ engine.

the bare block casing may be the same, but i very much doubt it. There were changes to the 2.0 blocks and breathers (extra crank breather) after MY01.

FYI, Open deck 2L EJ205 (99-02) is good for 24psi before the bores begin to move around under the gaskets (extensive testing by MSR on this one)

My bad - typo meant to say same style blocks as the previous lobs basically open deck

And I understand that testing has been done etc to support higher boost, however you cannot argue the point that it makes them significantly more probe to flexing than a closed deck, true?

you need to be pushing consistent high boost for it to be an issue though

most people running a 2.0 wouldn'd be using turbo's big enough that can effieciently push 22psi+ without huge amounts of lag.
and those running those big huffers are probably tracking the cars and will spend the cash on a CD EJ207 or other CD/SCD bottom end.

So, I stole some pictures from some other guys thread on another forum, so all props for these goes to him.
This is a head off an ej20y(cast z20) next to those of an ej2577b(cast w25).

The thread's creator notes that the z20 heads have bigger ports. The heads are pretty good things.
Now, the stock cams. I have never been able to find the true specs of the cams, but the next picture shows an ej20y cam (the solid one) beside a cam out of the ej2577b head (the hollow one).

One can see the 20y cam lobe is much smaller than the one from the 2577b head.
