New actuator or not???

ok so i just got my car back from the machanic with the new td05 16g installed only for him to tell me the actuator will only produce 15psi.... which my standard turbo/actuator is also capable of.

So i understand that 15psi on the larger turbo will produce more power but i am unsure of how significant they would be... let me be more specific, I'm chasing 200kw atw and i am currently running Td05 16g, FMIC, CAI, bigger injectors/fuel pump (255LPH) "and irrelevant suspensions/brake mods before the haters tell me i should be doing that first lol" which i beleive is capable of getting my desired power figure but idk if 15psi will get me there?

Is it normal to only run about the same psi as the old turbo after upgrading to a bigger size? (first time upgrader)

The car has not been to the tuner yet

Cheers

You will be able to run more than 15 psi. I am assuming the wastegate spring is a15 pound spring. Your boost controller will do the rest. Ps. If it is running 15 psi from a bigger compressor I would be inclined to baby it until it gets a tune.

i was under the impression that if the actuator is a 15psi that meant you could not run more then 15psi or does it mean it runs a min of 15psi? the car has not been over 3k rpm and won't until it has a full tune but thanks for the info.

so with the manual boost controller and a 15psi actuator ill be able to get more then 15psi is what your saying?

cheers,

15 would be the minimum. The boost controller bleeds air off the wastgate's reference line, so it thinks it is making less boost than it is. When the actuator sees 15 psi it will open the gate... Even though there may be 15 psi + in the inlet tract.
Have a bit of a google and see how these things work. My explanation is a simple one as I am on my phone.
Also. I would recommend staying with the stock boost controller or going with a 3 port style one. The grim speed was easy to install. You could do it in about 5 min in the car park at the tuners.

ok yeah cool, i understand all the other stuff i just had the way the actuator works back to front /facepalm. Thanks for your input, ill look into getting a 3 port.

Ok so after review i have decided to go with the grim speed 3 port boost controller. The just is booked in for a flash tune this thursday, i would assume a "flash tune" involves the ecu flash and a dyno run? anyhow thats what my mechanic recommended i have done. thanks again for your input
