Saw your post in this thread: viewtopic.php?f=24&t=25648&start=15

My OBDKey (bluetooth) arrived last night. They support SSM, so at an educated guess your car would work with this.

Haven't tried SSM out yet on my car, still getting the firmware update tool from the manufacturer.

I got mine from a seller here in Australia, and it was much cheaper than buying straight from the OBDKey website. PM me if you're interested and I'll send you the link.

Jdm is different ie not obd2 compliant thus the adapters etc won't connect

Like I said, haven't tried my OBDKey, but according to their website it will work:

http://www.obdkey.com/obdkey_subaru_support.asp

"Many early Subarus are not OBD-II compliant as they have been built before the US requirements date of 1996, or the European requirements date of 2001 or because they were launched in markets that did not require OBD-II compliance, like Australia, Japan and the rest of Asia.

In these cars there is still an OBD-II style socket but OBD-II is not supported. However, there is a protocol unique to Subarus called SSM which OBDKey can use in these cars."

I could be barking entirely up the wrong tree (which I probably am), but I thought I'd post up what I've found just in case it's of some use to someone.

That's rubbish because the au Subarus are fine to communicate via obd port

I wouldn't necessarily jump into purchase based on their advice but in saying that, might be worth an experiment for those with a jdm vehicle

If you read the earlier pages of this thread, unfortunately OBDKey doesn't work with an ADM MY04 2.0 GT. I wish it did but no go. So I now have an OBDKey slowly gathering dust as I bought it expressly as I'd read that they support SSM...

Hey Mick,

Romraider etc work via cable, but I also haven't found a compatible ODB bluetooth device which works.

I have a couple of ELM style bluetooth adapters around - so feel free to let us in on any secrets :D

Apologies I was hasty in responding it seems

However I did have a Bluetooth obd reader attached to my car on the Xmas cruise last year by someone when I popped a cel (g sensor)

They then used their android phone to clear the code

It was boostaddict's mate (apologies if you're reading this I don't remember your name but do recall you helping me out)

So yes a Bluetooth obd reader was compatible for certain

I've been in contact with them getting the correct firmware for my OBDKey, but since they're in the UK the time difference is making progress pretty slow... It may not work straight out of the box, but with firmware upgrades it might.. just being optimistic...

If anyone with a JDM delivered vehicle is in Adelaide I'm happy to use my OBDKey to try and get a definitive answer if it's going to help people on here. The last time I spoke to the OBDKey support guy, he informed me that the older cars speak SSM over K-Line, newer ones over CAN. Apparently there was no SSM signal when he last got me to interrogate my car via K-Line so I'm running another data dump for him tonight so he can look for SSM over CAN.

Anyway, it sucks yours doesn't work. Hopefully there's a way to get it talking properly so you can make use of it.

I got challenged.

I know HKS Camp2 works and the PLX DM100 OBD2 communicates fine with the 2L LGT in both JDM and AUDM markets.

The issue is in the protocol being used on an ELM327

superjoshism:
Yes, but a while ago, and then life got in the way, and I hadn't bothered any further.

dr20t:
that sounds promising(ish).

What's particularly frustrating is that I also have one of the 'ebay special' ELM orange/purple modules and both it and the OBDKey work perfectly with my [p.o.s] Honda Accord, and I came to the conclusion that I could waste my time in better ways than trying to coerce these to work with SSM in 2004 spec.

Note that I've not actually had my car tuned or had any significant mods done (only the Phat dump pipe) and so I'm not overly fussed.

Josh - have you found a JDM car to try to connect to yet?

At least you seem to be getting some feedback from the sellers now. I offered to help with testing (in the UK) but no response!

I still haven't found any confirmation that these will work with a JDM ECU... :?

BtSsm might be an option.
The developer is very helpful with sorting compatibility issues. :)

Confirming BTSSM works in the 03-06 LGT Twin Scroll ECU
