Don't know too much about the HKS one, but K&N is an oiled filter. The theory is that if they are over oiled, or over time, the oil will build up on the wires in the afm. If you just clean you AFM every service it won't be a drama.

Go nuts mate,
One thing to keep in mind, the AFM has an intergrated Air Temp Sensor so putting a cone filter in the engine bay where it can suck up hot air will actually retard performance.
Reason being is your car will think the engine bay air is ambient air and will adjust the timing/fueling to suit, as to not cause detonation.
Get yourself a quality kit that puts the filter into the inner guard and supplies a heat shield.
Hyperflow make a kit along with K & N and AEM. All roughly the same price, about $300 but its good kit, security and worth the coin.
