I'm about to get my spark plugs replaced, the stock plugs are NGK ILFR6B.

I don't think they make ILFR7B plugs, what other alternatives are there? Ideally I'm looking for something one range colder.

Apparently Denso IKH22 are equivalent to ILFR7B. I sent Denso an email a while ago to confirm but have not had a response.

Not sure you need it, why do you want to use a colder plug on a road car?


I used to use colder plugs on my MY99 WRX but I used to race it.

BKR6E or BKR7E
$3 each.

Ended up getting LFR7AIX as that's the equivalent of the non existent ILFR7B.. I am going one range colder while I'm at it. Since it's going to be cheaper than. The ILFR7B anyway, plus labour to change is a bitch. It's better to run a colder plug on a car pushing more power than stock, is it not?

only really need to run colder if you're having issues with pre-ignition from the plug tip staying too hot

I really do not see any point in paying mega bucks for fancy plugs.
the fanmcy plugs have very tiny electordes (0.6mm) if you suffer any abnormal (and normal) detonation, they electrodes can pit very easily,
and commonly destroy the end of the electrode. this increases your plug gap and you'll get mis-firing. thus wasting your $20 plugs
Also, the iridiums/ platinums ll seem to be gapped at 0.9mm... which I feel is too big for modified boosted engines
0.7-0.8mm is my preferred gaps (hope you supercharged H6 Owners are closing up the gaps on your plugs)

the copper/ nickel plugs have a 2.5mm electrode ande is much less of a chance of detonation having a largeeffect on the plug gap.
a set of plugs takes 30 minutes to change, do them every 20,000km.

hey Tangcla what were the LFR7AIX gapped at, did you have to re-gap?

As said before if you can do them in 30 minutes then good luck to you. It's an absolute bitch to access them [on the MY04] compared to my early model lib and then the foz. I'll take my chances with more expensive less often to replace plugs.

(talking H6 here)

Even dropping/lifting the engine one side at a time will take you over an hour. If not dropping or lifting the engine the rear plugs are quite fiddly. With the just-right-sized tools to get into that spot you could probably get it done in an hour and a half.

Took me 3 hours last year fwiw. First time doing it on this car and needed different sized extensions for the socket. I think I could get it done in 2 hours if I rushed the job with better sized tools

no need for all this engine jacking/ lifting bullsh!t

1/4" slim-headed socket set with the correct extensions and ratchting ring spanners amake it a piece of piss

do people want to do subaru plugs with a damn rattle gun?
