The standard turbo straight from subaru is only $5500

MRT have inflated prices for everything. Turbo repairs shouldn't be any different. If you have the time and want to save some money, you should order from the states for cheaper as Danny suggested. Takes about a 1-2 weeks to bring over.
I'm not sure about the pre-facelift turbos, but a VF42 for the post-facelift was around the $3,500 mark from Subaru.
