TURBOSMART E-BOOST2 ..... ANY GOOD?

Postby LIB05T » Mon Dec 08, 2008 4:49 pm

Hi there,

I'm new to the forum, have recently purchased a Silver MY05 GT - a chick driver! :)
It's already had a few modifications done by MRT - intake, Ecutek, bigger intercooler and turbo back exhaust.
I'm looking at purchasing an E-Boost2 Controller and wondering if anyone is currently running one or anyone's thoughts on their performance.
I'm not wanting a huge increase as my car is a daily driver and I wouldn't want to damage the turbo or engine in any way. Just after something to give her a little more kick. Also, I've heard good things about 'Pulse Racing' in Menai - would anyone recommend them for the installation and tune?

Thank you!!

Welcome Leisa 8) Great choice of car. Sorry I can't help you with info on the E-Boost2 Controller but I'm sure one of the gents on here will be happy to. You should start an introduction thread!

Leisa, a couple of questions for you...

where are you at, with the car right now....? sorry should re-word that..

are you happy with the current tune...?

do you know what a E-BOOST controller is ?

............

my thoughts and opinion are this..

you have some tasty mods already done and have spent some serious money on tuning via ECUTEK.. or someone has..

so dont give up on what you already have..

im presuming you have a type 2 ecutek, which is a generic map not a individual map cutom tuned for your car.. are you still with me here..

The current factory boost controller you have in your car is adequate enough for your mods .. its a mighty fine piece of machinery and doesnt need updating unless you are running big boost & massive kw's.

If you retain the factory controller and all the factory settings via the factory ecu and tuned via Ecutek or something very similar then its a safe proposition..

So here's what i would do... Go see Paul @ pulse or MRT considering they have done work on the car already & tell them you want a custom tune done on your car.. get them to iron out the niggly little things a custom tune will be able to do, that the generic map couldnt..

a individual custom tuned map specifically for your car and mods and driving style in my opinion is a better way to spend your money..

I have used Paul at Pulse and very happy with his work.

Doesn't BS you, and doesn't rip you off like some other unamed places

As stated in part above, don't get the EBoost for $600 or whatever they are now, spend that on getting a custom tune (where they can add more boost to the map) through a workshop and you will be very happy with the results.

another question.... why the bigger intercooler..

im presuming here again... but im thinking its a bigger TMIC not a FMIC..

this could be a possible reason for the increased lag.. or the lack of kick

Im wondering why the bigger intercooler was installed ?

Leisa,

Hi & Welcome!!

I'll name the place for u mick.. MRT BAHAHAH

Used e-boost an e-boost 2.. not bad unit, programmable for settings, to have change of boost levels.. 3 settings if I remember correctly..

I didn't have any problems with it, saying this, I haven't tryed it in my 06GT but had it in my 93 RS Lib Wagon.. worked a treat!

Only thing, bit on the expensive side.. few of the others on here have the EVC from HKS, which is also an electronic boost controller!

Thanks for your replies guys.
About 15 mins ago I paid for an E-boost2 on ebay for $450. I phoned a couple of places this afternoon including Pulse (a 45 min drive for me, so not too bad) and they quoted about $250 for installation.
Will take everyone's advice and go there - MRT did seem to be a little expensive.
I'll also look into the custom remapping and price that.
