JDM vs ADM EJ20 engine

Postby namdez » Thu Jun 02, 2011 8:27 pm

I own a Liberty GT MY 05 Auto. Recently it spun a bearing and I purchased a Spec B MY05 manual JDM engine as an replacment. I need couple of questions answered.

Is there a lot of difference between JDM and ADM engines?
What are main differences between auto and manual engines?
Is there anything I should be aware of?

Thanks in advance

Apart from bolt on's like the turbo etc. I didn't think there was any difference between the JDM and ADM 2.0T? Engine is EJ20Y in both cases.

Are the JDM engines set up and tuned to run on different petrol or different air mix or something. Cant remember where but i remember hearing that at some point. But that may have been about a much older car, not 100%.

japan has better "standard" fuels and lower emissions standards so their tunes can be more agressive.

as for engine differences, JDM engines have been very different in the past to the AUDM conterparts, even for the same engine disignation
different compression ratios, diffferent heads, different ports, AVCS differences (fitted or not) and the list goes on
i.e
the EJ205 that was fitted to MY99-00 JDM and AUDM WRX's and GT/ S-tb Foresters are visually identical from the outside upon first inspections
but the AUDM forester has a different combination of pistons/ rods/ head gaskets to give a higher compression ratio, aswell as smaller cams to give more airflow and torque at lower rpm

Ja JDM> All else

US built Subarus are rubbish and the Aussies versions not much better.

not as many tuning options for the jdm though, without needing a lot of work. small twinscroll turbo is the bottle neck
