ECU Question

Postby RaS11M » Sun Dec 12, 2010 11:48 pm

Hi there Guys,

Proud owner of a My05 Liberty GT here. I have a mate with MY06 GT (Tuned by Sti). I recently bought the new Tactrix cable and was wondering if i can download his ECU maps and upload it on to mine? Can that be done? If so can anyone point me in the right direction ?

What are the pros and cons of going through this procedure?

Cheers,

Ras

well every car is different
highly unlikely your car is going to run 100% like your mates car
it'll need fine tuning or a fix up tune after you downloaded the map off your mates car
so might as well get a full tune done from scratch

Thanks for that guys , Seriously considering Pulse Tune on my car but i read some negative feedback on the forums so not sure which way to go. Considered ECUTEK for a short period of time then decided not to go with that.

I am in abit of a limbo here... Just need a little more down low torque , better throttle response , more drivability through out mid range...

Cheers

The tune used in the TB STI models is still a factory tune at the end of the day. Yes, it has more power & torque (Especially in for the auto's) but it's nothing to write home about.

Can't see why you couldn't download the map, but would strongly suggest getting a custom tune to get the most out of your car (Especially in standard form)... If the TB STI was so good, then people who have those cars wouldn't be getting them re-tuned in large numbers :P

Given that just about every Au delivered 2.0 GT I've seen logs of knocks like a door in the wind, I'd suggest NOT doing it. And also, NEVER flash another ROM onto your ECU. You could copy over the maps, but flashing a different ROM to your ECU is a big NO NO.

So in short, if he has the cable, log your car for some time first, posting up your learning view's (to give indication of health check) and THEN we can give better advice ;)
