A/F Sensor question

Postby namz0rs » Wed Dec 23, 2009 4:01 pm

Hey guys,

Just had my 05 GT diagnosed by a dealer today cos of engine and flashing cruise light, turns out it is the "A/F Sensor for Bank1/Sensor1", is this the same as the O2 sensor?? I'm guessing that this is just the sensor that is inside the air intake piping?

Got quoted $523 for parts and $217 for labour which includes an ECU retune....So steep!!! EEK

Luckily i still got warranty from the dealer (just bought the car recently) but they want to have a look at it themselves so I gotta wait until mid Jan when their mechanic gets back. Do you think it is OK to continue driving in the mean time?

Yes O2 sensor = AF sensor.

I got mine done at Subaru for about $450 incl labour... so I'd compare prices first.

I thaught O2 sensors where in the exhaust and A/F sensor was in the air intake

Sorry I did get it mixed up - AFM/MAF is in the intake, O2 sensor is in the exhaust.
That's what happens when you reply on forums in between working :P

Dayem.. poor guy. I've been trying to call around to get some more quotes but it seems a lot of places are closed. Might shop around for an aftermarket A/F sensor.. $500 is bit too steep just for the sensor.

If i bolt on a new sensor do we need to clear the codes off the ECU in order for the engine light to go off or will it simply clear itself with an operational sensor?

I'd do it because the code is stored in memory. Not sure if it stays in limp mode though, if you don't clear it.

The dealer has included a "ECU re-programme" on the quote, I'm guessing this is a reflash of the ECU? Do you guys think is is necessary? I really might just go with an aftermarket Air Flow sensor
