Price for air flow sensor

Postby Monster » Wed Jan 20, 2010 10:51 am

Hello

I need some help from you guys. The air flow sensor might need to be replaced and I want to know what is a reasonable price for one. I have called 2 dealerships and they want $700 to $940 for one, excluding labor. I can find a few of them on the net for around $212 AUD, so can someone tell me why would there be such a big difference in price?

The airflow sensor is attached to the top of the aircleaner box, maybe Subaru don't sell the AFM separately i.e you need to buy the whole assembly.

Spray contact cleaner in your AFM, this helps to remove built up oil/dirt on the element.

How come your AFM might need to be repalced?

The check engine and cruise control light are flashing again. The same problem happened 2 months ago, I took it back to the dealer and they detected some fault codes from the air flow sensor. They cleared it and everything was fine, then for the past week I have noticed my fuel consumption is stuck at 16L/100km and last night the warning lights came back on.

The engine is fine, I didn't notice any drop in performance, so it shouldn't be a big problem. The car is in the workshop now, they couldn't find the problem last time, and I doubt they will find the problem again this time.

+1 on the contact cleaner not only inside the AFM but also on the terminals of its electrical harness. Are you running an oiled pod or panel filter? That could be fouling up the hotwire in the AFM.

I dont think it would be the MAF, if it wasn't working you wouldn't be able to move from where your car is parked.

Just got the car back, the guys said this time they found fault codes from the sensors on the left bank of the engine. I don't have the list with me, I will have to get it tomorrow. They clear the codes and the warning lights disappeared. They didn't know what triggered it, but the car drives fine, it just uses a bit more petrol than it should.

Also I got a quote for a trade in price for my 06 (pre face lift) Silver Spec B Wagon, 48 200 km, Auto, sat nav, parking sensor, full tinting, for $20k, IMO it is far too low. I thought it would get closer to $30k.

Had a similar problem a couple of times. engine light comes on, cruise light flashes. Mechanic told me code was for cam angle sensor. tried changing that but fault came back a while later. Have you tried the airflow sensor because mechanic thinks that could be the cause of another problem where at fast idle 1200-2000rpm the engine dies and recovers before it stalls. continues on this cycle until revs increased or the throttle is released and engine goes back to idle. switching the engine off then starting again seems to fix the problem for a short time until the fault goes away of its own accord

Uncanny, I had the same thing happen to me yesterday!

It was the the 2nd occurance and yer, after about 15 minutes it clears...the only think I did differently to normal is that I usually blip the accelerator pedal before turning it over but yesterday, I was in the process of the blippage when I cranked it, not sure if it was a coincidence.

Based on the repair figures you guys are mentioning and seeing it only happens once every 6+ months, I think I'll let it go and ask the service mob at the next routine tinker.
Now that I'm in North America, I'm greatly concerned about raised pick-up trucks and owners of wedge shaped vehicles. Seriously, not only do you have to be concerned about one hitting you in an accident, they stand a good chance of driving over you at the same time!

I have the same problem with the lights, check engine and gear box light, as well as cruise flashing, and they come on after the car sits idling for about 5 mins. then they go away after 15+ mins of driving.

I had my mechanic put the computer checker on it but he didnt pick up any faults. He said it could be to do with the air flow and petrol mix or something?

If you can wait a week or so, get it from jappanparts.com for less than half of the stealership. Give them the part no. which should be on it.

Ok, i just got my car back from the mechanic and to fix the above problem (so far) all he did was drain and flush the motor oil and re fill it?

Doesn't seem right to me, but so far so good.

was searching and found this topic, just bought my 04 gt and now ive got the same issue.

engine light comes on, cruise light flashes.

ive tried wiggling the air flow sensor (one attached to the box) it turned off the warning lights couple times, but now it just stays on. would it be safe to use contact cleaner on the air flow sensor and the plug that goes into it?

thanks.
