MY05 2.0L GT vs 3.0R Bspec

Hi All,

Need help in deciding whether to get a MY05 2.0L GT or MY05 3.0R Bspec liberty...

main differences between the 2 are:
turbo vs non aspirated
more torque (339Nm/3600rpm) vs less torque (297Nm/4200rpm)
normal suspension vs Bilstein sports suspension
17" rims vs 18" rims

i read a few reviews saying that the 3.0R Bspec version is a bit boring in the torque department and that driving shows lack of character.
how many revs do i have to hit in both version before the power kicks in?

Has anyone driven the 2 versions? i'm looking for a car that's fun to drive and has a bit of punch when i need it. i can get both version for roughly the same price. so buck for buck, which is better/preferred?

You didn't mention sedan/wagon and auto/manual preference.
Fill in a few details, and we'll see if we can get a few cars and owners together :)

My 2cents worth, If you are going to mod get the turbo, if not get the 6

Cause my 3.0 kicks a stock 2.0T in the but on the track....And I have the time sheets to prove it :wink:

As said above if you intend on chasing more power buy the gt, if you dont buy the 3r spec b.

I just moved from the spec b to a wrx because i wanted to get more power out of the car.

sorry for the very late reply. i only just got back into the country after a long business trip and finally have proper internet access...stupid IT guys blocked access to any type of forums..

to answer your question Ric, i'm after the sedan, and preferable manual but i can compromise in that department.

hmm...so 3.0R is faster than the 2.0L stock...
i guess i want most acceleration at low revs, cos i only see myself accelerating to the legal speed limit and stopping there. im guessing the turbo wont kick in until the higher rev range? eg 3500rpm +??

so next question is... which car gives more acceleration at lower revs?

Why lower revs?
If it's a manual gearbox, as soon as you start changing gears, you have total control over the rev range.

According to the 2006 brochure, the 0-100km/h times are

Manual GT Sedan: 5.7s
Manual 3.0R SpecB: 6.9s

Top speed:
Manual GT Sedan: 223km/h
Manual 3.0R SpecB: 243km/h ( I suspect this is a typo, and should be 233km/h)

i've been driving an auto for too long...

well i've decided that im going to get the 3.0L engine
time to go car hunting!

I don't know where Subaru came up with 5.7 for 0-100kms on the Liberty GT.. I can't get anywhere near it on my manual MY05 GT

Best Ive been able to do is 7.5s 0-100km/h on the spec b.....and thats using the same timing gear as Motor Mag.

I think these 0-100 times are irrellevent, out here in the real world the 3R Spec B is a fast car and will suprise alot of people out there who own faster cars on paper. The best times the magazines have got out of the gt is (6.4 seconds) and out of the 3r spec b (i read a 7.4 some where).

I currently own a MY07 wrx which can apparently get to 100 in 5.8 seconds but for me to do that i would have to do a gear box killing launch so out here in the real world id only say it would be slightly quicker than the gt.

Just buy the car you enjoy driving the most and suits your lifestyle the most.

My GT manual, although fast doesn't match the WRX for thrill or ultimate acceleration. Possibly simply diff ratios at the end of the day. But GT is a better car overall by a country mile.

The 3.0R against the GT is basically decided by whether you like turbo engines.

The Wheels magazine of the day have (for example) a GT auto wagon and a 3.0R auto wagon running 14.9s and 15.6s 1/4 mile time which is close with the GT 6.9s 0-100km/h and the 3.0R 7.8s. The GT wagon manual is quotled as 5.8s 0-100km/h. Not all figures are there for all variants.

Motor mag has slower 0-100km/h figures for each and the GT has a lower 1/4mile time at 14.52s.

GT Spec.B > 3.0R Spec.B

Just ask Brenda ;)

But they're both nice cars, just depends what you want from the car and how you'd like to drive the car etc.
