AWD, please help me out.

I dont know where to post this.
Ok, im new to the awd seen as i previously had the simple rear wheel drive with lsd layout.
My car (3.0r spec b if it matters) is an awd just like everyone elses, it does have a viscous centre differential if im not mistaken, it has same viscous rear lsd rear end, what about the front. Does the front run off the centre viscous diff or does it have its on viscous or any other type diff. So does the front wheels run with an lsd or is it an open differential as in single spinner.

Does a viscous centre diff move the front wheels to be an lsd?
Or does it have a viscous diff at the front as well?

Sorry for the long explanation.

No LSD in the front :cry:

Only Impreza STi's from 02 onwards run LSD in the front.

that sucks. so its 3 wheel drive. Which wheel at the front is the dominant wheel?

Well it's not technically 3wd, there is still power going to all 4 wheels, it just means one of the front wheels can spin much faster than the others, which technically it can't as the front driveshaft would be spinning faster than the rear...... Front LSD is really only good for reducing understeer in power on cornering... tis why they put one in the Sti.

When cornering, it will act just like a rear wheel drive in that if you load the outside wheel too much the inside wheel will spin - losing power that could be propelling you forward.

It will make the car understeer slightly, but most people won't even notice. Actually, 99.99% of people won't ever have that happen because their outside front won't generate enough grip to lift the inside front.

Ok Diff guys,

There appears to be a common filling point and reservoir for the Front and Centre Diffs of the 5AT.

If the Centre Diff is LSD and the Front Diff is not LSD, then what Oil type is used, a standard non-LSD oil or a LSD oil?

The recommended grade is 75W90, but Red Line Olis offer two types, one for LSD and another for non-LSD.
