Panel Filter

Postby THERB3 » Fri Feb 06, 2009 4:00 pm

Can someone help me in choosing a panel filter. Example BMC or K&N.

I spoke to Subaru Docklands and I was advised not put a oil type panel filter in the car only a dry filter.

Has anyone been told this and why if it is true.

I think most of us are using the HKS panel filters. They're dry types and seem to be pretty good.

Mmm.. To be honest I don't know. I got mine from these forums here. Maybe look on firesport.com or.. PM Phat? Or contact some of the workshops around melbourne. I know On The Run Motorsport is a ditributor of HKS products. They're in Clayton.

I have used both the BLITZ LM and APEXI panel filters on my Liberty's and can vouch for their quality and effectiveness.

The reason why SUBARU and members here recommend against the OIL type air filter is that over time there is a chance that the molecules of oil will get blown up the air pipe and settle/collect on the MAF ( Mass Air Flow ) sensor and damage it. You really don't want to know how much a replacement MAF is !

Is anyone currently using the HKS Hybrid panal filter and how do you rate it against the standard air filter ?

Aftermarket panel filters like HKS differ from the standar paper filter in that they have a bit more induction noise (if you're into that sort of thing). Otherwise the advantages are longevity and reusability. On a stock car, there probably won't be any increase in performance. However on a modified car the aftermarket filter should provide a bit better flow to keep up the increased gain.
