Genuine tensioner vs After Market

Postby angusdeane » Mon Apr 06, 2020 12:05 pm

I’ve just bought an 05 liberty, with an EZ30. Noticed the auto belt tensioner flapping around a bit. So thought best to replace it.

Question is, is it worth $250 from Subaru, or are the Dayco and/or Gates ones just as good or better at $150ish. Are there any other brands to consider?

I’ve used Gates belts and Dayco parts on my other cars without any problems, but really want the best for my new Liberty.

Any advice would be great. This is my first experience with the EZ so any advice on what else is good for the engine would be appreciated. Please message me, or link in any forum threads I should check out!

Thanks heaps!

The tensioners all move while the engine is running, due to belt vibration.

Most important to check the condition of the bearings in the two idler pulleys. They are a must to keep in good condition.
Especially the stationary pully on the A/C Bracket. That carries the greater load of the two.

Cheers BillyCorgy!

It was pretty noisy which made me notice it in the first place. I didn’t check the stationary pulley, but will when I get home!

Bearing in the tensioner is definitely no good, ordered new idlers and belt. :good:

The standard pulleys use 6203 bearings, which are cheap, but not very robust.
I have upgraded mine to double row 5203 bearings.

Hi,

I'm about to pick up an Outback 3.0R which has been owned since new by an elderly gentleman.
I know this needs doing.
Do you still supply the bearings?
Is there much involved in changing the bearings over?

I did drop by quite a while ago (years) & you fixed my power steering pump from my STB forester.

Cheers
Mark

Not quite sure if those questions are directed toward me?
CorgiWerx still supoort the double row bearing conversion for the H6 accessory belt pulleys.
Changing the pulleys over is not too difficult, however you need to remeber the belt path and have three hands available when refitting the belt.
The bolt securing the pulley of the swing arm tensioner needs to be replaced with a 5mm longer bolt to accomodate the additional width of the double row bearing.
