New Tyres for the 3.0R B

Postby ROGER_BRIGGS » Tue Apr 14, 2009 4:54 am

I'm also on the look out for a new set of tyres! Surprisngly no one on this forum has mentioned the Falken FK452 225/45 R18's, which appeared to be one of the selections of choice on the MRT forum for replacements for the RE050A's.

Any comments?

On the subject of accuracy of speedo reading, my speedo generally shows around +5km/hr higher than the speed showing on my Garmin Sat Nav. I dismissed this as believing the car's speedo to be the more accurate, but it is?

Which got me thinking that the slightly larger rolling diameter of the 225/45 R18's might just correct the difference. Am I on the right track or heading in completely the wrong direction?

I almost got those. Rocked up at a Jax dealer prepared to order a set but the guy said they wouldn't fit them to my car - thought they would scrub. In the end I went with the OEM size (and a probably slightly inferior tyre I guess)

What sort of prices are people currently paying for their tyres? Especially the RE050A's.

TYRES FOR THE 3.0RB

Postby ROGER_BRIGGS » Wed Apr 15, 2009 6:59 am

Best prices so far (Brisbane) as follows;

Falken FK452 225/45 R18 - $305

RE001 Adrenalins 225/45 R18 - $400

RE050A 215/45 R18 - $445

Dunlop Direzza DZ101 - $325
(225/45 R18)

Kumho KU36 225/45 R18 - $330

Will price the Pirelli "ROSSO"'s today but doubt they will be competitive with the Falken's, so I'm leaning towards these.

I am concerned about Smythie's comment about the guy from JAX saying he wouldn't fit them - "thought they would scrub". Pardon my ignorance, but what exactly is meant by the term "scrub". No one has raised a 'no-fit' concern to me so far!

jaysus! AT that price, I'd be going the Falkens as well. They seem to be an ace tyre from my research.

your price on the Ku36 seems inflated given the special pricing they are running just now. Quite a few other threads on these in the early 200's

oh and strictly speaking a 225/45 tyre should only be fitted to a 7.5in rim not a 7in. (STi wheels are 7.5)

I find the 215-45 rides pretty well, not harsh at all, compared to what some told me beforehand.

It makes me LOL people buy a relatively expensive car $56000 then add 1000s $$$ in mods and cheat on the only thing between the car and the road $1540 for OEMs and save $500 or so for crap tyers where is the logic? I would prefer to spend more on tyers than PINK badges lol

$330 is technically still well under the RRP of $385 ish.

There have been a few places that were offering special deals & selling them for the low $200 mark (225/40 18)... But Kumho have pushed up there prices from the 1st April, which was why I made sure my order was placed before that ;)

Nice :D

I was told they were going up a fair bit more then that. Like between 5-15%.

We had to add another $10 a pair for freight :(
