3.0R stuttering and misfiring (w/ video)

Postby legacyshawn » Wed Apr 18, 2018 2:18 pm

Hey all,

I Installed a DW65c fuel pump and didn’t change the tank gasket giving me an evap code. Ran for a few months cause it was cold and I was being lazy. A few days before I swapped the gasket and installed a new fuel filter the idle started to stutter when warm and and felt a slight misfire while cruising. Installed the fuel filter, changed the seal. Evap code gone. Same symptoms. Checked for vacuum leaks found a small rubber hose cracked- replaced. Check the PCV and the EGR and both were clean but I cleaned them anyways. Noticed driver side bank was running lean on idle and misfire detected on cyclinder 2, 4, 6.

Any ideas as to what it could be? I’ve looked online everywhere and I’m out of ideas. No leaks in fuel lines. Could the EGR controller be fried?

Here’s a video of what’s happening. Mind the random Maryland snow in April hitting my door. Notice the misfiring (rpm drops) when I hold the Engine around 2k, idle, then 3k.

You’d need to fully diagnose the car using tactrix or btssm, could be an avcs or vvl fault among others.

Here’s a search based on the fault:

Does suggest to diagnose avcs and vvl, plus a/f sensors and the exhaust joins for that bank of cylinders.
Luckily the avcs and vvl parts for H6 are reasonably priced but do diagnose before firing parts cannon.

Figured it out a while back. Thought I’d just update here. Read through the last page on this thread. Did lots of a diagnosis my self, gave up Subaru tech misdiagnosed as cam sprocket not activating. But after a lot years And checking fueling while watching rom raider, noticed an erratic AFR sensor. Swapped for a spare and it stopped.

Brilliant.
Was the faulty a/f sensor at all obvious in the logs?
I’ll take a peek at the logs when I get a chance ;)
