AVCS/AVLS trouble codes - possible ECU fault

Postby kuba285 » Fri Aug 04, 2017 5:29 pm

Hi guys,

Patients name: 2005 Liberty (Legacy) Spec B H6 - manual transmission (please note it's Euro version - LHD)

So, about two weeks ago I was changing the clutch in my car. When the job was done, the car dropped the codes for all of the variable cam timing sensors:

P0077
P0083
P2089
P2093

Now it's having problems accelerating, it's stuttering around 2k - 2,5k RPM and won't go over 4,5k RPM - obviously because the variable valve timing isn't working.

At first I thought that maybe one of the sensors was faulty, so I went to a workshop specialised in Subarus. The guys there checked the car and it seems that none of the sensors is actually faulty, they all have the right parameters. Also, the connections and wires are all in the right order. They suggested that the ECU might be at fault here.

So, the question is, has anyone experienced a similar problem? Maybe one of you knows what's actually going on here? I'm taking the car to other guys in a week and a half, but maybe by this time I'd be able to do something about it with your help.

A common-ish issue for the davcs Gt's is an oil leak around the heads area (can be cam seals, rocker/sparkplug/1/2moon gasket or avcs manifold seal leaks) inundating the exhaust avcs ocv loom, the oil travels up the loom to the ecu fouling the ecu plug/s.

So check that and also log the inlet & exhaust avcs angles looking for inactivity or oscillation between each bank L & R.
Edit: I see you're h6 so I'm not sure if you have davcs, but either way the logging info may be relevant...
