is it possible to get air into the coolant by the waterpump?

Hi,
I'm suspecting a head gasket but as long as I drive the temp is ok but after around 20min if I IDLE in trafic jam for example the coolant get close to the red so my mecanic is wondering if a leak in the coolant pump may let enter exhaust gaz or exterior air ( I have low CO² ) in the collant ?
Have you ever heard about this ?
Thanks by advance

Given the location of the pump (at the bottom) and the pressure in the cooling system, I would expect a leak of fluid out of the pump rather than a leak of air into the cooling system at the pump?

I have heard about it, and every time my reaction is...
Take it to a new mechanic, a Subaru specialist.

ok lol
At least I have no oil in the coolant is better than nothing
But as I have no idea if the water pump was ever change once since 275 000 km I prefered to ask.
Well there is no many subaru dealers in my country and often they are Lotus or Porche too and except generaly those horrible diesel
they don't often work on H6 like me ... even if an EZ30 boxer should be very close to a Porche Boxer I guess

Sounds like headgasket to me.
And no, air does not enter via a leak, the system is under pressure.
Air can enter, via the cap, after a leak, once the system has cooled.

Re-evaluate your "mechanics" credentials and effectiveness.

My H6 Lib is at the Mechanics right now, I had 2 holes, 1 in each Gasket....grrrr...lol good news is atleast its being sorted...
If yours is a HG, word of advice, buy all your parts online, I saved a ton of money by buying my HG set and water pump etc online, all Genuine Subaru except the HG which was Aftermarket from Maier( Formerly Viktor Reinz), I made sure to get them to replace everything I could while the engine is out, saves money in the long run, even things like HG Bolts, saved heaps getting them online...

I think I'm about to do the same and will definitely check out Maier as I trusted Viktor Reinz stuff. I have a similar issue, started with a leak in the radiator and a changed radiator later I recognized that the system wasn't bleeding properly. Then to see coolant dripping from the bottom, I've decided to do a HG+timing belt replacement. I just hit 100k a few weeks ago so...
(Btw this is my first post here, been stalking for years. I have an 03 Spec B. <3)
