So the other week i brought my car to my local mechanic as i was hearing noises in the engine. I drive a subaru liberty spec b 3.0r 2007 with around 185k km. The mechanic told me i would need replace the engine for around $4,500  as there was damage to the main bearing in the engine.

Could somone with a bit more experience with these cars advise me on:
- A reputable/cheap mechanic i could take the car to get a second opinion (preferably in the Doncster area)?
- If it is worth fixing it to just evntually sell it?
- If i would be able to sell it as it is, and how much it would be worth?

Well you could pickup a reconditioned engine:

Then I imagine a decent subaru workshop would drop it in for your for $1K.

All up maybe about $3k.

Or get some mates over to help you swap it on a weekend.

Lot cheaper than the rebuild I got done..... but the numbers still match!
And it was effectively a brand new engine!

If you wouldn't mind, what the end price for the rebuild on the EZ30?

I really want to put forced induction system to my H6, but the cost of a rebuild scares me

So do I.
But my fear is the fact I do about 60Kkm a year at the moment and $15,000 or whatever would be used up too quick before having to refresh.
Once I stop using my car for work I will probably get a low km sti and start reviewing it all again..... mind you the focus Rs looks pretty sweet and being an old Honda fan I would like to see the new type r first......
