Alternator Charge Rate

Postby JaffaSIX » Thu Dec 29, 2016 7:50 am

Hi guys,

So into the Christmas holiday had my car battery completely die, After I removed the old battery I noticed it was slightly bulged on the sides (have been told this can be due to old age).

After putting a new battery in and keeping an I on the voltage to make sure everything is correct.
The voltage right after the car is started is usually around 14/14.5 depending on if the car had been run already.
and after the car is running it appears to sit at 13.8 up to 14.1 volts. Does this all sound normal?
I've had the system reading as low as 13.8 at the battery with the system loaded (a/c for example) but today it was sitting at 14 and spiking to 14.1.

Thanks again guys

Sounds normal to me. 13.8v is still a decent charge rate, especially loaded up.

It sounds normal to me to, but I was told that the battery being swollen is a sign of overcharging also so I am trying to make sure that that's not what has happened here.
