Do I stay or do I go?

Postby Tonic » Sun Dec 11, 2016 8:56 am

Well 10 years and 225,000km later I have to make the decision soon.... do I stay or do I go?
My car has a few battle scars such as body scratches and misaligned front bumper and a split in the dash binnacle.
But it has a recent wheel hubs and viscous coupling renewal and the door actuators etc.... electronics are fine. Engine has only done 140,000 since replaced. It still uses 400mm of oil per 1,000km but am onto that now.

Sooo do I buy a new one and get $5-8,000 back on mine? Net Cost say $50,000.....
Or ......
Do I get a complete refresh and upgrade. I would like to rebuild motor, add a super charger and headers (Raptor I guess), exhaust etc and get Matt to retune; revise the suspension (add bars) and brakes and refresh the shell. I reckon maybe $30,000 should go close but will still be a 10 year old car with wolf in sheeps clothing reputation enhanced.

Buy a better lower km same model car and spend $20K on that, sell mine and move on... cost say $25,000

New car can be financed and is tax deductible with the car currently 100% business. Rebuild is a tax rightoff but would have to fund from savings.

Eenie meanie minee moe?..? What would you do?
Just really like this car for its drive.

Definitely move on. It never ever makes sense to refresh or upgrade a vehicle unless you know you're doing it for passion - financial logic goes out the door very quickly.

Sell the car, spend your money on something newer (but not brand new).

Ta Dr....

Well wifey  just came home in a new Vitara turbo-s rather than her 10 year old Jazz...

So it appears I will have to maintain now for a few more years as the money we had saved just evaporated....

Guess it is better than spending it on shoes..... or me ......

Of course I could just go and finance the new sti.

Unless you really love the car. I'd say go the still and save yourself the fuck around of building then inevitably breaking something so on and so forth etc etc. Just get something that does what you need out of the box. Just my 2c, at the end of the day only you know what you want.
