Hello all,

Owner of a 2006 3.0R with a timing chain cover leak. my mechanics have openly said they wont touch this job but also mentioned the leak is very miniscule. I just wanted to put the feelers out for a reputable Subaru specialist in Sydney for when I eventually get around to fixing it. since the motor is coming out to fix this (pretty sure the tensioner is done too) I wanted to make it stronger and possibly get more power. I know extracting power from this motor is hard to achieve without forced induction but I really want to keep it N/A.

Also have a look at Garage 88.

The only real way to get power out of an H6 without going forced induction is Headers, full exhaust, e85 and a tune.

Where is the leak?
If it is the seal mating face it is only a couple of hours job and a tube of liquid gasket.

Got coil overs coming from them.. Priorities right? the leak is very small however but I'm one who wants the car 100%.I have PM'd Matt from kiddo tuning for a tune but I think he is having some down time, haven't heard anything back for a few weeks, I gather it's something more substantial than down time and I can wait. Just hope he's alrite.

Exhaust may go on in the future. I don't want anything loud. Been down that path with a previous car and it gets old for me. Like a comfy good looking cruiser. Is there any point building these motors though?

Forgive me for my ignorance but I only know that the leak is coming from around the timing chain cover and they did mention rocker cover. They said it doesn't need addressing straight away but I don't let stuff like that go. Thanks for your reply mate.

If the leak is only small do not worry about it. But if you really want it fixed I can recommend NRG Auto in Rydalmere. My Spec.B has been serviced by Nick and Jeremy for 11 years, you will not find a better Subaru mechanic in Sydney.

Cheers mate I appreciate that. I will get it checked out I am looking into NRG auto, it's close for me. I just don't want to run into trouble down the line. Planning on keeping this car for a while and I am probably too anal about its upkeep. Not losing any oil thus far.

If you have the time, and tools, you could do it yourself in car by removing the radiator.

Full detailed walkthrough on timing chain replacement in this video. Would be the same in car, just radiator out and a bit of a tighter job.

There's no oil inside the timing cover. It's just to protect the timing equipment. If you have a leak it will be a tensioner or cam seal or similar leak inside the cover

I had the same issue on mine, I kept driving like normal for the past 3 years and the situation hasn't gone any worse, the car felt fine as well.
