Need help Centre Diff Assembly

Postby subarujulian » Tue Jul 05, 2016 3:40 am

Hey you all,

the centre diff of my 2005 legacy 3.0 spec B had to be replaced,
but now i am looking for some help in reassembly, because there are 2 washers where I am not sure where they belong to.

As you can see in the Pic there is a washer placed in the housing. I think it belongs there. But I have a second washer, where does it belong ? Help please :o

Greetings,
Julian

Both washers go on the transfer drive gear.

Did you replace the bearings aswell?

The transfer gear thrust washer selection is covered in pages 6MT-48 & 6NT-49 of the 6MT section of the Legacy Factory Service Manual.
If you have replaced your differential, then these sizes need to be checked to select the correct thickness thrust washer to suit the replacement differential.

Thank you Peter, but will it be always exact 2 washers with different thicknesses or sometimes only one, or maybe three ?

When I removed the extension case with transmission still in the car, one washer just fell out. I am afraid it doesn't belong on the transfer drive gear but I coulnd't find any other position where it could have fitted.

Thank you both so much !

Here is the list of the standard thrust washers available
The OD and ID are listed for confirmation?

What are the thickness(es) of washers you have?

You may need to do the thrust washer selection process to confirm the washers that you have a re correct for the housing?
