STARTER MOTOR PROBLEM

A problem arose yesterday on my 2006 3.0R Spec B where when I turn the key the engine doesn't start. The only way to start the car is for someone to tap the starter motor while another turns the key. A friend of mine who's an apprentice mechanic said it might be the wires of the solenoid aren't connecting as the car has done 150000ks and it might just need a new starter motor.
I was just wondering if anyone has any other thoughts on what it might be and how much it would cost to replace! thanks

Service the starter motor.

Cheap replacement... few hundred... don't stuff around. 10 years is about right for a daily as far as I can tell.

I know this is an old one, having the same issue in my 04 h6 6MT, just wondering if you replaced the whole starter or just the solenoid and where you got it from? I have been searching around for about a week now and cannot find anywhere that has a second hand reconditioned starter or aftermarket! Any advice would be helpful!
Cheers

The starter motor is relatively easy to pull apart.
A replacement brush pack is readily available off ebay.
If I remeber correctly, this one suits the starter motor on the manual transmissions (example)
