Engine oil analysis for 08 H6

Postby andy85 » Sun Apr 17, 2016 7:36 am

Received the engine oil analysis for 08 H6 and it says its not looking good.
Attached are the results.
How serious is 0.05% of water contaminates?
What could be the core problem?

Too many short trips not getting the engine oil sufficiently hot.
SN grade oil is more tolerant to moisture as SN grade is formulated for use with #85.

Should i go back to changing the oil every 6months? As this is the first time I haven't changed the oil in 10 months

Firstly, is this level of moisture an issue?
You would need to take an oil sample at 6 months to see the condition.
If the 6 month sample contains similar moisture levels then you may need to change your driving style and get the vehicle out on the open freeway more often?

Also, contact you oil supplier's technical department.
Obtain their opinion, that is what the techo's are there for!

Almost certainly due to short runs, not getting hot enough to drive off condensation. If you do another test, do a decent run of 50km or more immediately before taking the sample.
I would be a bit more worried about the Silicon, as its usually caused by dust and grit getting in through the air cleaner or an unsealed oil cap. Only other source would be silicon sealer/gasket goo applied to freely somewhere. neither are good things.
