Increasing voltage when reving?

Postby Kiety » Sat Jan 30, 2016 4:42 pm

Hi guys,

I just recently changed my battery (as the previous battery was dead) and I've tested the voltage of the battery and the wire from the alternator to the battery.
I've found that when I rev the engine, the voltage increases proportionately.
Is this normal?

Car: Subaru Liberty 3.0R-B 2005 6MT

Thanks,
Pat

No,

Somewhere there may be a bad earth, confusing the voltage regulator and therefore alternator output.
Check the negative terminal at the battery first, and then where this lead bots to body/engine.

The terminal connectors are blue, would this cause it?

Describe "blue"
Blue from heat?
Green/blue powder from copper salts?
Post a picture?

The "Blue" looks like the blue anti-corrosive lacquer Subaru sprays onto the battery terminals?

Ah okay, so how would I know if I've got a bad connection from the earth connector and the body/engine?

This tread blames a blown fuse, but does not say which fuse?

These are the fuses around the alternator

Here is the charging system

Look for where Pin3 from the Alternator Control goes to on the engine ground. (Brown Wire according to diagram)
If necessary, jumper this point direct to the battery negative to establish a temporary test battery-earth reference connection.

If that does not correct it, then the internal voltage regulator within the alternator may have issues?

Do we have any actual voltage readings to go off, or are we just guessing here?
