Building NA H6 for 220+kW

Postby Mraussiep » Sat Jan 09, 2016 4:50 pm

Hey guys, I've got myself a 2004 2.5L Liberty wagon at the moment but with the lack of available mods and problems with ecu reflashes I'm looking into upgrading to a GEN4 3.0L. I'm looking at chasing 220kW+ at the moment and helping that along with E85 via a flex fuel sensor just as a precaution. What would I be looking at to do as a priority for the most street available power? I'd like to keep its stock look as much as possible with a relatively tame exhaust to keep attention away and body would stay pretty plain.

Is there really any way of getting to that power level without atleast a non intercooled supercharger?

Hi there,
With one post you may be a noob member.
If you are seriously interested in a H6 and wish for it to perform on its merits, then contact Matt at KiDo_Tuning and discuss what tune Matt can give you.
memberlist.php?mode=viewprofile&u=7166
He will also get you an E85 Flex Fuel tune.

Seriously, the stock factory tune is not very good and Matt will help unleash the engines true potential.

220kw at the motor NA - I hear of some getting up to 175 - 180kw at the wheels - works out to a fair bit at the motor

Can anyone produce an actual dyno sheet with 180kw at wheels for a h6?
Not a virtual dyno, not a calculation based on G/S.

I like the h6, but some of these power claims are getting up there.

Don't make me wheel out the stupid bets again.

Give me a week, I'll get you a dyno sheet with whatever number you want on it.

I would prefer a toe with green nail polish.

But yes, dyno sheets can be fettled but that doesn't really come into the equation when the car goes nowhere near a dyno.

A friend's NA H6 was on the rollers last year, same dyno that did mine. He has Raptor headers and a hand crafted exhaust system and a free flow air filter. After mapping it produced 265bhp at the fly which is about 197kw.
The first engine died after eating to much CAT
The second engine died of a broken piston
The third engine is in the car
The fourth engine is in the machine shop

So far: Rotrex Supercharger (16 psi) FMIC,DW300c fuel pump, ID1050 injectors
Producing 431bhp and 350 lb/ft torque on the Rotrex SC not finished yet
Raptor headers, 75mm Milltek exhaust with Quad tips,
Custom made 4032 forged pistons by JE Pistons, forged conrods, Exedy Clutch
K sport 8 pot front, 4 pot rears all on 330mm discs, Hel brake lines
Meister R coil overs, Whiteline 21mm rear ARB, Perrin end links and strengthening brackets
Complete Whiteline kit for the front suspension including steering rack
One off Carbon effect Front grill, Carbon lip spoiler, Exterior De-chromed, LED interior light conversion.
Recaro Leather front seats with all functionality.
Waist spoiler, Smoked rear lights,, LED sill plates, LED sidelights
Prodrive PFF7's 18x8, in Bronze shod with 235/40/18 Goodyears.

What did it spin at the wheels?
Not looking to offend but I put very little stock in flywheel Hp extrapolated from a chassis dyno.
Though as it has already been inferred chassis dynos are just numbers too, though some sense can be made if all the data is presented.

Oh, and based on stock 190kW cars, one usually sees 135-140kw at wheels, so 200kw flywheel would be 145-155kw at wheels.

In the UK pretty much every dyno quotes power at the fly, agreed its still a calc to work out the fly figure from the wheels but if you keep using the same dyno then your able to make before and after comparisons.

We have the same problem in the uk with some owners claiming to have 290bhp just from a remap and an exhaust not even headers.

This is why you shouldn't build a street engine to a power figure but rather a driving experience/style. Power figures are arbitrary at best as mentioned above. Setting out to build and targeting some figure from a forum isn't necessarily going to get you the engine you want especially if you try to cheap out. If you do your research, plan a budget, and make mods to suit you driving style you should then see usable increases. As most people have found these engines respond best to a good tune with the bolt-ons being supporting players. To really get it singing you are going to delve deep into both the engine and your wallet and a lot of unnecessary expense if basing a power figure.
