Strange noise on acceleration

Hi Guys,

So I have a question, my old 2.5i used to do the same, it sounds like a tin of coins being shaken around just after I press the accelerator, most noticeable from a standstill and from acceleration after coasting. My mechanic took a hammer to the exhaust heat shield on the 2.5i which appeared to have taken a stone hit and was bent in slightly, and that seemed to help, but I cannot notice any damage to the 3.0r's heatshield that could be causing it.

Any ideas?

cheers.

Two things to look out for?
[a] Timing Chain Tensioner Rattle
[b] worn bearing on the Accessory Belt Idler Pulley mounted on the A/C compressor Bracket. (Bearing knocks around until it speeds up and runs true)

or, at a stretch, is your gear shift sloppy?
A worn out bush in the linkage behind the gearbox will allow a metal on metal rattle, however that may be there most all the time.

I will keep an eye out for the first two, but now that you mention it yes my gear change is relatively sloppy, I have been planning to replace the bushes. Might start with that and see what happens.
