The distinctive H6 whine

Postby SubMeister » Wed Dec 30, 2015 7:27 am

MY09 3RB owner here. I've always enjoyed the whine in the H6, it sometimes reminds me of wail my of my dad's 1972 911.

Does anyone know where the H6 sound comes from? Timing chain or intake system? Also I also wonder if Subaru had the sound engineered in when they engaged Porsche do design the H6 intake / valvetrain?

To my knowledge the distinctive whine is the timing chain doing it's thing.

That are a beautiful sounding engine, one of the best.

Set of headers and full exhaust makes them sound pretty exotic to my ears. (I miss my EZ30  )

You guys joking right? If it's the same whine I have then I doubt it. It sounds like a dirty old Holden Commonwhore.. Terrible sound. I've already replaced the hoses, pump etc. I don't hear this whine from my mates H6.

Old holden whine is generated by the straight cut timing gear

H6 whine = race car

I was referring more to those crappy VN era power steering whines.

Also my mates H6 Prem Gen 4 doesn't whine.
