Postby benTSH » Wed Sep 09, 2015 4:45 am

May I'm wrong ? I hope

The fuel filter for Liberties has been in the tank for many models (years)?

Most modern cars only have a filters in the tank. External filters seem to be a thing of the past.

It's still changeable, it's just in the tank.

I agree that it should be changed. But honestly it's not that hard to do from within the tank.

Just a bit more messy.

I would much rather prefer it in a more accessible area such as in the back under the wheel arch area such as on my old VW. Or even in the engine bay, where subaru used to have it.

Wonder why they changed it anyway.

Your comparing a VW turbo diesel to a Subaru NA petrol which are completely different. Diesel fuel filters need to be changed more frequent then petrol filters due to contamination, water etc to prevent damage to the system. And the benefit of in-tank fuel filters is long service life and better filtration.

Correction: There is TWO fuel filters in the tank. One pre pump filter and one post pump filter
