5eat 2-3 gearchange harsh

Hi all. Today, i test drove an 06 3.0r facelift auto. I noticed that if i changed gear manually with the paddle shift the 2nd to 3rd upshift was quite harsh. It got smoother as it warmed up. Is this something to be concerned about or is it a characteristic of these gearboxes?
Cheers
Chris

This should all be able to be fixed by an ECU Tune. For example, the improvements on a 2005 H6 3.0R Outback 5EAT just from an ECU Tune are incredible.

Although this doesn't have Paddle Shift or SI Drive, many other members have benefited from an ECU Tune. Contact Matt from KiDo Tuning.

Have a look through this thread to see some feedback:

A tune by Matt for pure smoothness

Mine is a little harsh on 1-2 & 2-3 changes when cold also. This is something which has only developed in the last few months. Mechanic reckons it is fine and may in part be driveline backlash as her aging parts get just a little sloppy. Mine is tuned.

Exactly the same thing started happening to mine in January where shifting up from 2nd resulted in a hard thud. Heard of a lot of cases where 2nd to 3rd isn't a smooth shift. I took my car to Matt for a retune and hasn't been happening at all since :D

Wife's car is doing this only when it got cold the last couple of weeks.
Goes away after about 2 minutes.

Mine are rough as well, but what is odd is when it auto shifts down 4-3-2, sometimes it feels like the box has dropped, but it's fine if I down shift manually

I have the same issue with mine, had a full transmission flush and new fluid, diff oil replaced with full synthetic, just recently had KIDO tune done and although the actual shifting is much smoother than before it still has the thud (only when cold) when it shifts from 2nd - 3rd. I have done extensive searching on Google to try and find out about the cause, some say it's tune related and can be rectified by a TCM software reflash, others say it needs the TCM reset (only by a dealer supposedly) some have said that having this done rectified the issue but most said it came back once the TCM relearned. I am not overly concerned by it anymore as I have also read numerous posts that say this is normal operation and is designed to protect the transmission until the ATF warms up, I suppose it makes sense when you consider how much fluid these transmissions hold. The fact that once it's warmed up (within about a minute or so) the changes are then smooth as butter I can't see there being any other reason than it being a fail safe mechanism and part of the normal operation, especially when so many people all around the globe are experiencing the same issue :)
