If there is a topic on here with pics that would be awesome. I can't seem to find one. Keen to give it a crack myself. Full clutch and flywheel.

I have done them on a 2.5i.
My preference is to lift the engine rather than drop the gearbox.
Why?
(1) The 6MT is weigh too heavy (pun intended) to drop out at home.
(2) There are just too many items to be disconnected to remove the gearbox (exhaust, heat shields, front drive shafts, rear tail shaft, gear shifter linkages, etc)
(3) The clutch and flywheel can be serviced while the engine is hanging from the roof (but I put old tyres underneath to cushion a fall "just in case")

Otherwise, the 3.0R-B clutch is just like the WRX and STI pull clutch.

On the 2.5i all the other "bits" can be done while the engine is out, like...
Rear Oil Seal, front oil seal, etc, etc

Not really a small job is it. I'll have a look to see if any of my mates have a proper gearbox hoist/trolley. But I'm game. Good way to spend the weekend
Now just to pick the right clutch

Think about it?
The 8 bolts between the engine and gearbox need to be removed anyhow?
So does the pitch stopper?

Now, count up what else then needs to be removed to drop the gearbox and compare that to what needs to be removed to lift the engine.
In my books, lifting the engine wins hands down every time.
Others will differ, that is okay.

I would rather be working on my feet than lying down under the car?

I did one a few years ago. Dropped the gear box and moved it back with enough room to swing a cat but I didn't have to pop the drive shafts

It wasn't a fun task. first time doing it for myself and my mate. took 3 good days of work but it was a good learning process in the end.

I would definitely do it again if:
I had a hoist
I had plenty of beers
I had all of the right tools for the job

I should mention too, we did it this way because we didn't have access to an engine crane/hoist

It's definitely do-able

Engine crane is $200 on ebay! gearbox jack is similar - you should be able to easily do this in a day if you have even vaguely the right tools. There is also an excellent walkthrough on youtube.

I am pretty sure my neighbour has an engine crane sitting in his garage. So that might just be the decider as to which way to go. Free tools are always welcome. Might just rope him in to help me, he's a heavy diesel mechanic, so this should be a piece of piss for him.
Now the big question is which clutch flywheel combo to get. Being in NZ everything is just a bit more expensive. Quite like the look of the Exedy FH02SDV kit but that might just be overkill for an NA Lib.
I wonder if Jim Berry would send me one. I imagine postage would be horrendous.

watch out for the friction disc diameters
230mm for the four pot turbos with the 6MT
240mm for the 3.0R with the 6MT on the Spec-B
