MY07 3.0 Spec B Clutch Replacement

Postby veloce » Mon Apr 20, 2015 12:56 pm

Hey everyone,
I've had my Liberty for about 8 months now and have loved it, however it needs a bit of work. Firstly the clutch will need replacing in a couple of months, and I was just wondering what you guys were running? It's fairly stock apart from a remap which the previous owner had done so I was thinking of just getting an OEM replacement, but if there's a recommended upgrade for a similar price I wouldn't mind going down that route. I understand that the post-facelift Liberty which I have can run the same clutch as a WRX STI. And also whilst I'm here the rims have a bit of gutter rash. Is there any way of getting that 'shiny' finish from a diy refurb (specific paints & primer)? I've heard that generally rims are sprayed black before getting sprayed silver to get that finish but I can't speak from experience. If not I'll probably just respray them gloss black. I tried the search function but couldn't find what I was looking for so thanks in advance!

As for the clutch, I'm running an Exedy HD clutch which is a direct OEM replacement part. I did the same back in the day with my WRX too. Good price (the cost is all labour, really) and great performance with noticeable in-gear acceleration improvement because there's no slip now - definitely recommended.
I was going to procrastinate, but I put it off...

There are a number of topics on this forum regarding 3.0R-B clutch replacement.
It appears that the EJ25 engines with 6 speed use a 230mm diameter friction plate and the EZ30 engines with 6 speed use a 240mm friction plate.

There are many merchants on ebay offering the 230mm models for the EZ30 engine.
Beware, look at the Exedy site for reference.
